John 5:4 - For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.
This verse is removed from the critical Greek text and cast in doubt or missing from modern translations. However, this verse explains the man's statement in John 5:7, "Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me." Without verse 4, this man makes no sense. Verse 4 also explains why these people were waiting around the pool in the first place. This verse is no doubt original and is one of many places where John is explaining Jewish things to his Gentile readers. It was obviously removed because of unbelief in the ministry of angels.
John 5:14 - "...Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee."
Note here and also at John 8:11 - Don't be foold by the Easy Prayerism crowd that "repentance" is not found in John! If they'd take the trouble to read John instead of word-searching it, they would see John 5:14 and John 8:11.
John 5:22 - For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son.
Important cross refs: John 5:27; Matthew 11:27; Matthew 28:18; John 3:35; John 17:2; Acts 17:31; II Timothy 4:1.
John 5:23a - "That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father...."
Compare Isaiah 42:8, "My glory will I not give to another." JESUS IS GOD!!!
John 5:23b - "...He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father, which hath sent him."
Cross ref: I John 2:23.
John 5:39 - Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
"Search the scriptures" is indicative, not imperative. In other words, Jesus is saying, "You are in the habit of searching the scriptures to find eternal life. And they testify of Me."
"Jesus is the center, soul, heartbeat and blood of the entire Bible. If He were taken out of the Bible, it would be an empty, meaningless book." - Oliver B. Greene, "John, Volume 1", p. 310.
John 5:40 - And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.
"The saddest verse in the Bible!" - VM
John 5:44 - How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?
Cross ref: Hebrews 11:6.
John 5:45 - Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.
Note: "Accuseth" is present tense, not future. Moses already accuses them in Deuteronomy 31:25-27.
"Moses, in whom ye trust." Note here and at John 9:28, Any true disciple of Moses will become one of Jesus Christ!
John 5:46 - For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me.
To today's typically lost Lutheran / Methodist / Catholic: "Had ye believed Luther / Wesley / Simon Peter, ye would have believed Jesus, for he wrote of Jesus."
"Moses...wrote of me." - Genesis 3:15; Genesis 12:3; Genesis 18:18; Genesis 22:18; Genesis 49:10; Deuteronomy 18:15-18; Luke 24:44; John 1:45; Acts 26:22; etc.
John 5:47 - But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?
So how can someone who denies the first portion of Genesis (Creation through Flood) claim to believe in Christ?

Notes in Matthew Chapters 19 & 20
Matthew 19:4 - And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female....
Adam & Eve were made "at the beginning." No room here for Gap Theory, Ruin / Recreation, Day Age Theory or Theistic Evolution.
Notes on the "rich, young ruler":
Jesus quotes 2nd table of the law, but notice one commandment left out, "Thou shalt not covet." Young ruler would then not be able to say, "All these have I kept...." Jesus, knowing his specific sin of covetouesness, brought him along to plainly see the "one thing thou lackest." (Mark 10:21).
Sermon outline on Matthew 19:21:
GIVE UP - "Go and sell that thou hast...." (all of it)
GIVE TO - "And give to the poor...."
GIVE IN - "And come and follow me." or Mark 10:21, "come, take up the cross, and follow me." (Partial sermon outline by Pastor Bartholomew Orr, of Brown Missionary Baptist Church. Heard on the radio; not necessarily recommended ministry).
Note at Matthew 20:22 - But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask....
"Ye" is plural. Not only their mother asked, but they asked it themselves. See Mark 10:35 ff.

Notes in the Nineteenth Psalm
Psalm 19:1 - The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
Cross refs: Psalm 50:6, 97:6, 148:3-4; Romans 1:19-20.
Note at Psalm 19:4-6 regarding the sun: The Bible never taught a flat earth. Note "circuit" of the sun's path. See Ecclesiastes 1:5.
Psalm 19:12 - Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults.
Verse 12 destroys both doctrines of sinless perfection & loss of salvation due to sin. If we confess sins we know, we are cleansed from all, including unknown sins, I John 1:9. On not knowing the inner self: Jeremiah 17:9.

The Beginning of the Four Seasons
Genesis 8:22 - While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.
Prior to the Flood there was no rain (Genesis 2:5-6) and probably a shroud of water vapor surrounding the earth (note at 7:11), filtering sunlight. After the Flood we have the four seasons now familiar to us. Further, we have a promise that this climate system will endure until the earth is destroyed. Environmentalism must be viewed with this promise in mind.

Notes in the Fourth Chapter of Genesis
Genesis 4:3 - "...Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering..."
Remember the ground had been cursed, Genesis 3:17. Why should God accept this offering? What else is often offered in sacrifice to God from that which is cursed by Him (gambling winnings, dishonest earnings, etc)?
Genesis 4:5a - "But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect."
Hebrews 9:22 - And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
Proverbs 15:8 - The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright is his delight.
Cain was not saved, I John 3:12.
Genesis 4:23-24 - The first recorded killing in self defense. Such a killing is righteous and not to be avenged.
Genesis 4:25 - And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.
There is no reason to believe that other children were not born in the interval. How many years had passed between Abel's birth and death? Adam and Eve were fruitful and multiplying in this time, as God had commanded, not sitting around twiddling thumbs and waiting for Abel to die so they could replace him. Seth is simply the third birth recorded by name, because his line continues through the flood to the Redeemer. Adam "begat sons and daughters" who are never named - in fact not one daughter is ever named, Genesis 5:5. Objections such as, "Where did Cain get his wife" are purely ridiculous.

Notes on Eve's Temptation
Genesis 3:6 - And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
Good for food = lust of the flesh.
Pleasant to the eyes = lust of the eyes.
To be desired to make one wise = pride of life.
I John 2:16 - For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
Compare the three temptations of Christ, Luke 4:1-13, for these same three elements that that world offers.
Eve's sin versus Adam's: Eve was deceived; Adam was willful. Eve was the first sinner, but we are not born sinners due to Eve but to Adam (the head of the race), Romans 5:12-19.

Notes on Woman's Judgment in the Curse
Genesis 3:16 - ...and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
To understand this, compare Genesis 4:7 - "If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him."
Sin's desire is to rule over a man, but that man is given the task of ruling over sin. So likewise then in Genesis 3:16, woman's desire after the curse is to rule over her husband, but he is still to be the ruler. Part of her judgment for her role in the Fall is that she is no longer content to be the help meet for him; she desires to rule him. Feminism, marital strife, lack of submission - these are all a curse on the woman. She thinks she will be happy if she rules over the man but in fact she will be more miserable in that case.

Notes on Woman's Creation
Genesis 2:18 - And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
"It is not good..." - another indication that these events take place on the sixth day, before God pronounces that everything is "very good" in Genesis 1:31.
Adam was "alone" even with all the animals over which he had dominion. There is such a vast gulf between man and animal, and this is by God's design. Evolution cannot bridge that gulf. No animal comes anywhere close to man.
Notice it is not "help mate" as the term is often misquoted. It is also not one word, "helpmeet." She is the help. "Meet for him" is the description.
"Help" is a noun. A woman is her man's help. I Corinthians 11:9, she was created for him and not the other way around. We would do well to remember that fact of her purpose as his help. The career-minded woman would come home to her family. The woman politician would resign. The man would treat his help with the honor she is due, etc. etc. Blessings be heaped upon the woman who is rightly her man's help, for good help is so hard to find these days, Proverbs 31:10.
"Meet for him" indicates "corresponding to him. One like unto himself." She was to be one suitable for the necessary relationship man required so that he was not "alone." An animal could not fill this role, or even another man. Only the female human, per God's design.
Genesis 2:19-20 - And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.
God shows Adam that he is not an animal, is on such a higher order than any animal. If the evolutionist would open their eyes as Adam did and truly contrast themselves with animals, they would see the truth that Adam saw on his very first day.
"...but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him."
God knew this to be the case; He was showing Adam. Adam also saw that each male animal had his female, but for Adam there was not found this female. Adam recognized his lack (because of course God showed him).
Note at Genesis 2:23-24: Adam spoke the words in verse 23. According to Jesus Christ in Matthew 19:4-5, it was the Creator who spoke the words in verse 24.

Notes in First Chapter of Genesis
Besides my prior post, a Margin Outline of Creation, here are some additional margin notes I have made in the first chapter of the book of Genesis.
Verse 1 - "In the beginning God..."
No attempt to try to prove God's existence; just stated as a given fact.
"God" is plural in the Hebrew. An early hint at the Trinity without contradicting that there is only one God.
Verse 4 - "...and God divided the light from the darkness."
Separation is an integral part of the creative acts, Genesis 1:4, 1:6, 1:7, 1:14, 1:18.
Verse 16 - "And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night..."
KJV translators' note: "for the rule of the day." "Rule" does not mean to rule over in authority, but to signify a measure (as a 12 inch "ruler" does). This answers v. 14, "to divide the day from the night."
Verse 26 - "And God said, Let us make man in our image..."
God refers to Himself as "us" and to "our image." Another early hint at the Trinity.
Verse 26 - "...and let them [Man] have dominion over...all the earth, and over every creeping thing...."
Cross references for mankind's dominion and stewardship over God's creation: Genesis 9:2-3; Psalm 8:4-8; Psalm 115:16; Hebrews 2:6-8; James 3:7.
Verse 27 - "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them."
Adam and Eve were both created on the sixth day. Chapter two, completely detailing Adam's creation from dust and then Eve's from his side, is not a separate creation account; it is an expanded view of the sixth day. Without Eve, God could not have pronounced everything "very good" at the end of the sixth day in Genesis 1:31, nor rested on the seventh day.
Verse 30 - "And to every beast of the earth... I have given every green herb for meat."
Before sin, there was no death in the world (Romans 5:12), including among animals (Romans 8:20-22). So before the Fall, all animals were plant eaters. They will be again during the Kingdom age, Isaiah 11:7.

Margin Outline of Creation
For some chapters and sections of the Bible, a quick visual reference near the text would be helpful to find specific portions of scripture more quickly. Most "study" Bibles already have this kind of thing, breaking the text up into sections with headings over each section. Regular reference Bibles and straight text Bibles do not usually have this, so it is something that would be helpful for Bible note takers to make for themselves. I am talking about writing notes in the margin that identify specific sections, especially in a long series of related events. For example, to quickly find a particular plague in the ten plagues of Egypt, an outline of the plagues in the Bible margin would be helpful, giving a small note beside the verse at the beginning of each section. Something like "6th Plague: Boils" right next to the verse that started that section, for example. This kind of outlining would be good in other places of lists, like at the long list judgments in The Revelation, at the Ten Commandments, through much of the law in Leviticus, through some genealogies and many other places. You could turn to Revelation for example and quickly find a particular judgment that you're looking for because you have a margin note right next to it. I also suggest making these outline notes in a different color than you use for your regular Bible notes, and keeping the "outline" note color consistent throughout the Bible.
Here is my margin outline of the Creation account in Genesis chapter 1. Each heading note is written right next to the verse referenced, making it easy to quickly find at a glance the particular portion of text you are looking for if you are referencing the Creation.
In the margin right next to verse 1 - 1st Day: Creation of Heavens & Earth
v. 6 - 2nd Day: Firmament (Atmosphere)
v. 9 - 3rd Day: Dry land, Seas, Vegetation
v. 14 - 4th Day: Sun, Moon, Stars
v. 20 - 5th Day: Sea Life, Fowl
v. 24 - 6th Day: Land Animals
v. 26 - Also 6th Day: Creation of Man
Chapter 2, v. 1 - 7th Day: God rests

Capital Punishment Reveals Man's Value
Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man. - Genesis 9:6
Capital punishment reveals man's value. He is made in the image of God, and only because of that fact must his murder be answered.
Man's value is assigned by God.
Man's value lies solely in his connection to God.

Hebrews 11:3
Hebrews 11:3 - Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
Understand: to perceive with the mind; to heed, consider, apprehend.*
We do not simply accept or passively receive the fact that God created everything from out of nothing by speaking it into existence. We UNDERSTAND it. Some will simply go along with it. We APPREHEND it. We take it gladly take it into our minds and hearts. We EMBRACE it.
*(Strong's # 3539, Greek noeo. Definitions from both Thayer's and Vine's.)
VM - expanded from a note taken during a sermon by Ignacio Rovirosa.
