Capital Punishment Reveals Man's Value

Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man. - Genesis 9:6

Capital punishment reveals man's value.  He is made in the image of God, and only because of that fact must his murder be answered.

Man's value is assigned by God.

Man's value lies solely in his connection to God.

Psalm 27:8a

Psalm 27:8a - Seek ye my face...

"God is willing to be known.  He is willing to open and discover himself; God delights not to hide himself.  ...He may be searched into.  ...He desires to reveal himself." - Richard Sibbes.

Quoted in "The Treasury of David" by Charles Haddon Spurgeon, Explanatory Notes and Quaint Sayings on Psalm 27.

Psalm 27:9

Psalm 27:9 - ... put not thy servant away in anger...

"As thou didst Saul before me," left unsaid but surely on David's mind.

Psalm 27:8

Psalm 27:8 - When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek.

Notice the command is in the plural, to all of God's people: "Seek ye."  David made it singular, "This means me."

(NOTE: Ye, you, your, yours are plural in the KJV; thee, thou, thy, thine are singular.  Another good reason not to switch to modern versions or risk losing such beautiful distinctions).

Psalm 27:5

Psalm 27:5 - For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion....

"The best of shelter in the worst of danger." - Spurgeon

From "The Treasury of David" by Charles Haddon Spurgeon, exposition of Psalm 27.

Psalm 27:4

Psalm 27:4 - One thing have I desired of the LORD....

"One thing." - See Luke 10:38-42, "One thing is needful"; Philippians 3:13-14, "This one thing I do."  Mary of Bethany and Paul both in pursuit of the same one thing as David the Psalmist: ever closer communion with the Lord.
