Notes in Genesis Chapter Twenty-Two

Genesis 22:2 - "...Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac..."

Isaac called Abraham's only son, despite Ishmael.  Also in verse 16.  Also his "only begotten son" in Hebrews 11:17.  This sacrifice of Isaac prefigures that of Jesus Christ, God's only begotten Son.  (1) Son sacrificed willingly by Father; (2) God provides needed sacrifice; (3) Son raised from the dead (Hebrews 11:19).

Genesis 22:5 - And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.

Abraham trusted that Isaac would return with him.  See Hebrews 11:17-19.

Genesis 22:6 - And Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering, and laid it upon Isaac his son....

How old was Isaac?  Old enough to carry a large amount of wood; probably full grown.
