Brief Notes in Shepherd's Psalm

Psalm 23:1 - The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

"I shall not lack; I shall not be in want."

Verse 2 - "...he leadeth me beside the still waters."  Hebrew: "waters of quietness."  Sheep will not drink from running water.

Verse 3 - "...he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake."  The reason for our righteousness, to glorify Him.  His name's sake.  See Matthew 5:16.

Verse 4 - "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death...."  The shadow, not the reality.  The threat of death.  "Thy rod" is a comfort - the chastisement is a comfort, as well as the guiding staff.
